GOSHEN – Republicans, Democrats and the one Independence Party member of the Orange County Legislature unanimously adopted the 2021, $813 million county budget on Thursday. The 2021 budget is $3 million less than the 2020 budget.

There will be no layoffs and $2 million will be saved through an early retirement incentive negotiated with the CSEA, which 64 county employees utilized.

Aside from that, 282 vacancies saved $13.4 million in 2020 and 79 county employees took furloughs over two months saving $427,000.

County Executive Steven Neuhaus said one important factor in the fiscal success of the county is much needed federal aid.

“It could be definitely impacted if the federal government doesn’t come through and it could be impacted if we have more costs dealing with COVID, but it is a balanced budget, it is a stable budget and it will keep the county afloat and it also keeps in consideration how it looks to outside agencies such as Moody’s and the state comptroller’s office,” he said.

The 2021 budget comes in under the state tax cap.
