YONKERS – A Yonkers woman is in the hospital suffering from two gunshots wounds when a man fired a gun through her apartment door at 129 Saratoga Avenue in that city on Saturday evening, November 21.

The 43-year-old woman was rushed to a local trauma center.

Police said the woman’s 24-year-old son and a 34-year-old neighbor, later identified as Michael Santiago, argued outside the apartment. Santiago allegedly pulled a knife and fled, returning 20 minutes later with a gun. He fired the weapon through the victim’s closed apartment front do0or, striking the woman.

Santiago then went outside and fired several more shots at the victim’s apartment before fleeing.

Investigators identified Santiago as the suspect and early Sunday evening took him into custody. He was found in possession of an illegal Ruger LCP .380 caliber handgun.

Santiago was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

{When people resort to violence to resolve co0nflict, everybody loses,” said Police Commissioner John Mueller. “Violence – especially gun violence – as no place in our communities, and the Yonkers Police is committed to deploying available resource to hold these individuals accountable who would instigate violence and perpetrate crime. Thanks to the interminable efforts of our police officers and detectives, one more violent individual and illegal and gun is off our streets.”
