Armed standoff ends peacefully in Fishkill

ByTOWN OF FISHKILL – A standoff with a man armed with a rifle has ended peacefully after nearly two hours on Saturday morning.  Fishkill police officers responded to 121 Cooper Road for a welfare check of an alleged intoxicated emotionally disturbed male around 9:05 a.m.

When the first officers arrived, the man displayed a rifle, at which time the officers retreated.  One of the officers called for additional assistance from police.
Village and Town of Fishkill Police responded along with units from the State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers trained in negotiations communicated with the man and were able to convince him to surrender at around 11 a.m.

The subject was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
