Teen shot multiple times, expected to survive

POUGHKEEPSIE – An individual that was shot multiple times Monday night has undergone surgery and is expected to survive.  The shooting happened near the intersection of Hooker Avenue and Montgomery Street and was reported to 911 at 10:21 pm.

Responding officers found a 17-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident, shot multiple times. The teen was triaged by Poughkeepsie firefighters and transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center by Mobile Life Support Services.

According to police, evidence at the scene shows that the victim had been standing on the sidewalk in the area of 6 Hooker Avenue as a vehicle approached. When the victim began walking towards the vehicle shots began being fired at him from inside the vehicle. The victim was struck and fell to the ground.  The vehicle, a white sedan, possibly a BMW, sped away.

Found under a parked vehicle a short distance from the victim was a handgun. The vehicle also sustained damage from gunshots.
