NEWBURGH The Orange County Transportation Council wants to study the possibility of creating microtransit service from Montgomery to Beacon with the City of Newburgh being the center point.

The city council Monday night endorsed a feasibility study into creating the new service, which City Manager Joe Donat said would benefit Newburgh.

“Newburgh has public transit that is owned and operated by the county that goes past city lines and is intended to assist some of the city residents here with public transportation needs and this study would build upon that,” he said. “And I think we can all agree we have a very solid foundation, but obviously improvements are needed, and this study would explore exactly what those improvements would be.”

The service beyond city limits could bring residents to job centers beyond Newburgh and the city council has backed the study.
