A Long Road Ahead for New York

This year has certainly been tough for us all – the largely unexpected impact of the novel coronavirus has caused a huge change in our day to day lives, and early on New York in particular was one of the worst hit cities in the world. Just as things had been seeming to get back on track and things were looking a little better, the risk of a second wave started hitting other parts of the world and numbers across the US saw further spikes that had many worried that a repeat of earlier in the year may be on its way.

The tough times aren’t over either – many businesses that have been struggling throughout and who have had to temporarily close their doors may still be at risk of permanent closures, as stimulus packages start to come to an end and other forms of support start to grow thin, many who may have faced uncertainty around what the future may hold may be thrust once again into that situation and there may be a bit of a balancing act to figure out how to best resolve these changes.

Despite all of the bad news, there is plenty of good news to go around for many too – there are plenty that have been able to find the opportunity to thrive and grow despite the difficult situation, largely in the online space. Digital media has certainly found a foothold where others have struggled largely due to an increasing audience and a little more expendable time – this has been seen through services such as streamed digital media and podcasting as both have found a surge of new users as many look to fill the time.

Another very successful market that has found growth where more traditional measures have failed is within mobile gaming, particularly in the betting and gambling market – many operators had found initial difficulty with the widespread cancellation and postponement of sporting events but the resurgence of many brought a lot of stability back, similar online casino operators were able to benefit from the surge of new players as services at legalonlinecasino.org found players from many different states looking for different ways to spend their time.

There’s certainly a lot of change to come too, suggestions that a more permanent shift toward remote working and online learning could cause a major shift for employment and for education, and it has been suggested at least in the short term until the middle of next year that this will become a standard way of life – for many students this could last even longer as many institutions have committed to a full year of remote learning. One thing that has been true throughout however is that the resilience of many has meant despite the difficult times many have pulled together and shows that despite the difficulties a recovery will come – it may be a long road, but at least there are those who have been able to thrive throughout.
