NEW YORK – Metro-North is proactively working to minimize slip-slide, a condition caused by a slimy substance leftover from crushed leaves on the rails – and its effect on commuters’ trips.

Metro-North is keeping their right-of-way as leaf-free as possible by deploying high-pressure rail washers and scrubbers as well as on-board sanders to make the rails less slippery.

Railroad officials said while they can reduce the incidents of slippery rails, they cannot eliminate them and will continue their efforts to minimize any delays and canceled trains due to slip-slide.
