NEWBURGH – A man and his dog were struck and killed by a CSX freight train in the City of Newburgh on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at Water and Renwick streets.

A CSX spokesman said the incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. He said the man was walking the dog on the railroad tracks.

Railroad officials offered a warning about safety near rail lines. “CSX appreciates the swift response by local emergency responders and extend our thoughts to those impacted by this tragic event. Safety is our highest priority in the communities we serve. Incidents like this are a sobering reminder that any unauthorized activity on or near a rail line is very dangerous and should be avoided.”
