Mount Vernon officer assaulted; suspect arrested

MOUNT VERNON – On Friday, August 7, a Mount Vernon Parking Enforcement Officer was assaulted while performing his duties.  The incident was captured on camera by a resident.

The pictures and statement from the onlooker were provided to the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD).

In a statement released on Saturday, the police said, “MVPD apprehended the individual a short time later. Force was used to effect the arrest.”

The police department is currently investigating both the assault incident as well as the use of force while executing the arrest.

Mount Vernon police officials are asking for anyone that witnessed the events to step forward.  Anonymous tips can be submitted to the police by texting the information to the police. Anyone with a cell phone may send an anonymous tip to us by texting MVPD and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411).
