NEWBURGH – Town Police in Newburgh have received several complaints from residents who received threatening or intimidating phone calls from persons identifying themselves as representatives of the Social Security Administration.

The calls usually threaten some sort of legal action, issuance of warrants and even arrest.

The motive of the caller is to take your money, police advise.

“We want to make it very clear to the public that these calls are a scam,” said Lt. James Nenni. “The Social Security Administration will never attempt to contact anyone by phone under circumstances like this.”

Police advise that persons who receive those types of calls ignore them. Do not return voice mail messages and do not engage anyone in conversation and under no circumstances should you give out personal or financial information to those callers.

Anyone with concerns should call the Town of Newburgh Police at 845-564-1100.
