CHATHAM – State Police at New Lebanon have arrested a Bronx man on a charge of unlawful fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, but the charge was not lodged until after the car he was in was hit by a CSX freight train in the Village of Chatham.

At about 4:30 a.m. on July 13, troopers attempted to stop a 2020 Ford Explorer for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law on Route 296 in the Town of Chatham. The vehicle failed to comply and led police on a pursuit into the Village of Chatham.

The vehicle left the road at the intersection of Route 296 and Route 66. Near Woodbridge Avenue troopers found the truck disabled and stuck on the railroad tracks.

Collado Feliz, 31, and his two passengers were removed, and a request was made to CSX to halt all trains in the area. One oncoming train was unable to stop and collided with the vehicle.

No one was injured, including CSX employees, as a result of the crash.

Feliz was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Chatham Village Court.
