MONTICELLO – The federal Environmental Protection Agency has granted the Sullivan County Land Bank Corporation $500,000 for a brownfield cleanup.

The funds will be used to remediate Monticello Manor at 15 High Street in the Village of Monticello.

The 5.6-acre property operated as a hospital from 1923 to 1977. It was then sold and converted to an old age home that operated from 1977 to 2008.

The site is currently vacant and is contaminated with petroleum from leaking above ground and underground storage tanks, inorganic contaminants, and heavy metals.

Grant funds will also be used to develop a community relations plan.

The site is located in a Qualified Opportunity Zone.
