MIDDLETOWN – Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County (CCEOC) is now offering virtual parenting education classes. The mission of the Statewide Extension System has always been to put knowledge to work. This has not changed even throughout the impacts of COVID-19. CCE Orange County is no different and one way that they are continuing their outreach is by making parenting classes available online. In addition, CCEOC is expanding its existing consumer helpline with a special Parenting Warmlinethat can be called by parents, caregivers, teachers, and anyone involved in raising children.

The CCEOC “Parenting Warmline” is a free, non-emergency service that provides support, resources, and education for raising children. The Warmline will be answered on Mondays from 10 – 11 AM and Thursdays from 1 – 3 PM. The Warmline’s number to call is (845) 344-1234 ext. 271. You can leave a message outside of these hours and you will be called back at the next session.

The next parenting class, “Discipline is NOT a Dirty Word” will be offered in two sessions, on Wednesdays, May 27 and June 3, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM on the Zoom platform. This 2-week virtual parenting workshop will focus on supporting parents and caregivers to create nurturing environments in their home with the help of positive discipline tools.

Parenting and Family life educator, Julika von Stackelberg, commenting on “Discipline is NOT a Dirty Word, “Some parents have attended this class multiple times! I think what most of our participants really appreciate is that they have a space where they can share and learn about the journey as parents with others who are experiencing similar things. While each parent and family is unique, our classes often reveal how much of their humanity they share.”

This class will be free, however, registration is required. For more information and to register, please visit http://cceorangecounty.org/events/2020/05/27/discipline-is-not-a-dirty-word-virtual-class or email cmo37@cornell.edu. Once you are registered, you will receive the Zoom link to participate.
