CORNWALL – A brush fire turned deadly in the Town of Cornwall Saturday afternoon.
It happened on Ziegler Lane, a private road off Orrs Mills Road.
Town Police Chief Todd Hazard said the man in his mid-70s was conducting an illegal burn. He tried to extinguish it, but the fire quickly got out of control.
The chief said the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters from several area departments got the fire knocked down within a half hour.
Nobody else was hurt.
There is an outdoor burn ban in effect in New York from March 16 thru May 14.
