Domestic dispute leads to discovery of drugs and weapon

HYDE PARK – 35-year-old Jesse Stevens was arrested by Hyde Park Police following a domestic dispute between Stevens and his wife on March 27.

According to Police Chief Robert Benson, his officers responded to a 911 report of a domestic dispute at 3 Hook Road on Friday afternoon.  Officers encountered the wife who had obvious markings as a result of the dispute.  Officers were told that the assailant had left the premises before the police had arrived.

While taking the report, officers observed Stevens making a u-turn with his vehicle in the parking lot.  The alleged assailant refused the order of the police to stop his vehicle and he fled the scene.

Hyde Park police pursued the suspect and were unable to stop the vehicle until he reached Laurel Street in the city of Poughkeepsie. Officers detained Stevens and searched his vehicle, locating alcohol, marijuana, and a hollowed-out book containing a loaded Glock 19 9mm handgun, possessed illegally.  According to Benson his officers also discovered several high-capacity magazines.

Stevens was arraigned in Hyde Park Justice Court on the felony charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, the misdemeanor charge of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Harassment, a violation.  Stevens was sent to the Dutchess County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.  He was also served with a full order of protection.

Medics from the Fairview Fire District evaluated the victim and rendered care at the scene.  The City of Poughkeepsie Police and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s office assisted the arresting agency.
