POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican former Westchester County executive and gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino has yet to formally announce a run for state senate, but he has already won endorsements.

State Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy has encouraged Astorino to run for the 40th District seat. “I think Rob would be an outstanding candidate for the state senate to bring someone who has fought the fights of unfunded mandates on the forefront as county executive. He would be such a fresh air to bring into the Senate Republican Conference,” Langworthy said.

The seat is currently held by Democrat Pete Harckham, who has won the endorsement of the State Independence Party, its Chairman Frank MacKay said. The district encompasses portions of Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties.

The Dutchess County Conservative Committee, meanwhile, voted to recommend Astorino’s endorsement to the party’s state Chairman Jerry Kassar, said county Chairman Donald Minichino.
