HYDE PARK – On Friday afternoon FD Roosevelt High School students were dismissed earlier than their scheduled departure.  Students were advised during their last period to exit the building and head directly to their buses without stopping at their lockers or anywhere else.

The cause of the premature departure was a written bomb threat discovered in a bathroom at the high school.  According to Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson, the police officer (School Resource Officer) was alerted to the threat and immediately went to work with the assistance of school staff to assess the situation. A decision was made to evacuate the building for safety reasons.

Hyde Park police requested assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office K-9 division along with bomb dogs from the New York State Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police and Metro-North Police to search the entire building.  The search was negative and ended at approximately 3:30 PM.

Chief Benson said that the incident is still an active investigation and there are no more details available at this time. The Hyde Park Police Department will be adding extra officers to the school to assist with the investigation.

If anyone has any further information they are asked to contact the Town of Hyde Park Police Department at 845-229-9340 or they can email hydeparkpolicetips@hydeparkny.us
