NEWBURGH – Fire damaged a historic Newburgh city church overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

The two-alarm blaze at the Calvary Presbyterian Church at 120 South Street brought out firefighters from Orange and Dutchess counties to battle the flames in the rear of the rectory. That 150-foot by 75-foot structure is connected to the main church building.

Mutual aid fire departments included West Point, City of Beacon, Castle Point,  Stewart Air National Guard, Cronomer Valley, and Middle Hope with New Windsor on standby at the public safety building.
