GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature, Thursday, approved pay raises for lawmakers, the county executive, and county clerk.

Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia noted the raises will not take effect until after their next election. Many lawmakers have not received increases in several years and those that were adopted were modest, he said.  “These are very fair; they are about one percent. Westchester, Rockland County, City of Middletown, Ulster County – 50 percent raises for the current term,” he said. “State of New York, 50 percent over two years; two senators went to the bathroom for the vote, but they are taking the damn money,” he said.

Brescia said some of the county legislators had not received pay raises in eight years.
