GOSHEN – Goshen teacher Scott Smith has announced his intention to run for the 18th Congressional seat currently held by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring.
This will be Smith’s third attempt at capturing a seat in Washington.
He will run again as an unaffiliated independent candidate. “I see a need to have independent representation. Right now, the way I see things, we end up with candidates who represent parties, not necessarily the people of the district,” he said.
Smith said with all that is going on in Washington right now, with the impeachment, Congress is “in desperate need of cleaning.”
To date, the only Republican candidate to announce for the 18th Congressional District is Chele Farley of Tuxedo Park.
