POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Police Benevolent Association and the Police Athletic League have partnered in a number of community outreach efforts in recent weeks.

According to School Resource Officer Karen Zirbel, “On Thanksgiving morning, hundreds of desserts were delivered to individuals and families throughout the City. The deserts were donated by people and organizations from throughout Dutchess County. The Police Department, PBA and PAL would like to sincerely thank all who helped and contributed in any special way with our efforts.

PBA President Kevin Van Wagner has announced another outreach program with help from Santa Claus. On Thursday, December 19, 2019, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., the PBA and PAL will offer photographs with Santa Claus at the Public Safety Building, located at 505 Main Street. The public is encouraged to stop by and have your child’s photograph taken with Santa Claus. There is no cost to City of Poughkeepsie residents.

Police Captain Richard Wilson also introduced the department’s finale for the holiday season with the inaugural “Santa’s Candy Cane Express.” Santa Claus is riding in his armored sleigh and will travel through the city and stop at seven locations to hand out candy canes and meet with children, naughty or nice!
