Man rescued after falling into dry water well

PEARL RIVER – A 20-year-old man who was working for a private company inspecting the driveway of a property on West Washington Avenue in Pearl River fell into a dry, unused water well on the property on Thursday afternoon.

He was in the hole for a few hours until a passerby heard his calls for help and contacted Orangetown Police.

In addition to local police, other first responders included Excelsior Fire Department, Hook and Ladder Fire Department, Pearl River Ambulance, Medic 21, Orangetown Building Inspector, and the Rockland County Technical Rescue Team.

The young man was eventually extricated from the hole and administered medical attention before being transported to Westchester Medical Center for further evaluation and medical care.
