MONTICELLO – James Lyttle, the retired Sullivan County director of the Office for the Aging, died on Saturday, November 23. He was 73.

“Jim Lyttle served Sullivan County for 25 years with pride, professionalism, and dedication,” said County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez. Lyttle, a Kiamesha Lake resident, began his career with the county in 1985 as coordinator of what was then called the Aging Services Department.

A decade later he was appointed as director of the Office for the Aging Services Department and 10 years later, named director of the Office for the Aging “where he spent the next 15 years cultivating and improving critical services to our older citizens and their families,” Alvarez said.

“He loved this county and the people in it, and served his community in many ways beyond county leadership, including as longtime chairman of the Town of Thompson Planning Board,” said the chairman.
