PORT JERVIS – Results of laboratory tests to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn baby boy found dead in a vacant lot on November 12 may not be available for law enforcement until possibly late December.

The child was found around 10:30 at night naked and with his umbilical cord still attached leading investigators to believe he had been recently born.

Police Chief William Worden said last week that they have identified the child’s mother and have spoken with her.

Port Jervis Police are being assisted in their investigation by the State Police Forensic Identification Unit, Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County Child Protective Services and Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office in an attempt to ascertain the facts and circumstances that occurred prior to, and leading up to, the infant’s death.
