Boat capsizes off Haverstraw Bay Park, child dies

HAVERSTRAW – A boat capsized on the Hudson River off Haverstraw Bay Park Friday afternoon, dumping seven people into the water. An eight-year-old boy was initially reported missing. He was recovered with first responders performing CPR, transported by Hatzolah Ambulance to Montefiore Nyack Hospital where he died, according to several Orthodox Jewish chat rooms.

Boat that capsized is brought on shore

Those accounts identified the youth as Yosef Goldman of Israel, who was visiting the area with family for the Jewish New Year holiday. He was the great-grandson of Grand Rabbi David Twersky of the Hasidic Village of New Square.

There were no reports of other injuries as a result of the boaters being dumped in the river.

Police are investigating the incident.
