KINGSTON – Mayor Steven Noble’s proposed 2020 Kingston City budget lowers spending by some $55,000 from the 2019 fiscal plan.

The mayor unveiled his $43.92 million budget Thursday evening, which includes no increase in the tax levy for the fifth year in a row and no increase in sewer rates.

“We will decrease spending for the first time in over a decade. We will not have any layoffs. We are going to have 12 new or expanded full-time positions,” he said. “It is going to be a record year for public investment and we’re super-excited to invest in parks and recreation.”

Noble’s budget, which will now be scrutinized by the common council, includes a full-time bilingual clerk, a full-time director of arts and cultural affairs, three positions at DPW including a tree maintenance technician, Wi-Fi in city parks, a new fire engine, and construction of a skatepark at Hasbrouck Park.
