WHITE PLAINS – A man, who was on the lam, was indicted for the January 2017 murder of his one-time girlfriend.

On January 22, 2017, prosecutors alleged that Luis Alturet-Rivera, 44, shot Diana Casado in the head as she sat in her car, which was parked in a Yonkers parking lot. She later died.

A video surveillance camera nearby captured Alturet-Rivera with her pocketbook, which contained her wallet, credit cards and other personal information. Another camera captured him throwing the purse into a dumpster.

During the initial investigation, Alturet-Rivera left the state and became a person of interest in the case. He was eventually tracked down in Washington state and extradited in February 2019.

Alturet-Rivera is charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
