Ulster jail inmate charged with possessing two plastic knives

KINGSTON – A New Paltz man, who is currently an inmate in the Ulster County Jail, is charged with a felony for promoting prison contraband.

Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 20-year-old man, whose name was not made public, on Wednesday afternoon, October 2.  The arrest was announced on Monday, October 7.

Corrections staff searched the man’s cell and found two plastic knives. Staff had been altered to the existence of the weapons after the man allegedly had an argument with another inmate and showed the inmate the knives.

The man remains in the Ulster County Jail pending arraignment in Kingston City Court.
