KIRYAS JOEL – State Police identified the man killed when his minivan overturned in a pond in the Town of Palm Tree Sunday evening.
The victim, who was alone in his vehicle, was Jacob Farkas, 26, of Kiryas Joel.
Police said he was driving east on Karlsberg Road when the vehicle veered across the roadway and down an embankment along the north side. The minivan overturned and came to rest on its roof partially submerged in water.
Kiryas Joel Fire and EMS responded and extricated Farkas from the vehicle. He was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Monroe Fire Department SCUBA divers responded and conducted a further search of the area for other possible victims with negative results.
Police said there was no indication there were any other occupants in the vehicle.
