BEACON – Former Beacon Mayor Clara Lou Gould will be honored on Thursday as the Beacon Historical Society and the Tioronda Garden Club dedicate a commemorative plaque and bench at City Hall in her honor.

Gould will celebrate her 92nd birthday on Thursday, August 29, as the community joins to celebrate her legacy as mayor.

Gould served as mayor from 1990 to 2007 and remains the longest-serving female mayor in the state. She led the city through its renaissance and transformation to a vibrant center for the arts with a re-energized Main Street, enhanced property values and a surge of national and international tourist visitation.

The community will gather to honor Mayor Gould at 6:30 p.m. in front of City Hall.
