Two arrested after breaking into off-duty cop’s vehicle

ORANGEBURG – Police have arrested two men for breaking into an off-duty police officer’s car and stealing items while it was parked at the O.M.M. Soccer Facility t 175 Old Orangeburg Road in Orangeburg.

The officer spotted the men removing items from his vehicle around 3 p.m. on Saturday and called it in to Orangetown Police. The men, who fled in a 2019 Ford Expedition, were located shortly thereafter and attempted to elude officers, were stopped in heavy traffic on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

Arrested were Victor Caquias, 48, and Liciana Navarros, 28, of Passaic, New Jersey. Police allege both men were found in possession of several stolen items including credit cards and retail merchandise. Vasquez Caquias was also found to be driving with a revoked New York State license.

Both men were charged with felony grand larceny. Vasquez Caquias was also charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, attempted petit larceny, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Navarros also charged with criminal possession of stolen property and attempted petit larceny, both as misdemeanors.

Both were sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of bail pending a future court appearance.
