STONY POINT – Police in Stony Point arrested a Garnerville man on two felony burglary charges for allegedly breaking into an elderly homeowner’s residence in the town.

At 3:15 a.m. on Friday, June 28, police received a 911 call from the resident on De Halve Maen Drive that they were awoken by the sound of banging and breaking glass at the back door. The sound could be heard on the 911 call. Police got there in less than two minutes and saw a man fleeing into neighborhood backyards.

Ramirez

Jeffrey Ramirez, 20, was arrested after he ran into a fence in a backyard on Bontecou Drive. He was charged with burglary, two counts of criminal mischief and trespassing. Police are continuing to investigate and more charges are possible as several calls were received Friday morning from the same neighborhood reporting car break-ins.

Ramirez was sent to the Rockland County Jail without bail due to having several arrests and two felony convictions.

Police said Ramirez may not have acted alone. Authorities remind the public to lock all car doors and secure their homes at all times and call police if they see something suspicious.
