KINGSTON – The Ulster County Democratic Committee will meet later this month to endorse a candidate to run for county comptroller in the November general election.

Two candidates have emerged, March Gallagher and Lisa Cutten.

The party committee members will meet on Thursday evening, June 27 at Kingston City Hall.

The county Republicans have no candidate for the post, but Party Chairman Roger Rascoe said that could change.

“We have had several people inquire and they have looked at the demographics of the county and we have some Republicans and some people from other parties that are interested in running and when we get together, we will make a determination of who we feel is the most qualified to run for the position,” he told Mid-Hudson News.

Rascoe said that could even include a Democrat. They would consider cross-endorsing if they felt that person was the best for the position.

Democratic former County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach, who is now a deputy state comptroller, has endorsed Gallagher as his replacement.

The winner in November will serve the remaining two years of Auerbach’s term.
