POUGHKEEPSIE – A fight between two brothers early Thursday morning in a garage at 16 Yates Boulevard in the City of Poughkeepsie ended when one brother shot the other.
The 28-year-old wounded sibling, Adam Hannon, sustained a gunshot to his forearm and was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. He was arrested after his release by Town of Poughkeepsie Police for making terroristic threats at MidHudson Regional Hospital where he had been treated for a medical emergency.
Poughkeepsie Town Police said when Adam Hannon was discharged minutes earlier he made threatening statements that he would return with a firearm and kill some people.
When Adam returned home, inside the garage, he attacked his step-father who was trying to prevent him from leaving on his motorcycle.
The mother of the siblings called to her 25-year-old son, Zachary, for help and before he came to the aid of his step-father, he grabbed the man’s legally-owned gun from his parent’s room.
When Zachary got to the garage, he became involved in a fight with his brother while trying to help his step-father and during the scuffle, the gun went off.
Zachary Hannon, 25, was charged by city police with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, both as felonies. He was committed to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
Adam Hannon was remanded in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond on the charge of making the threat.
Police said numerous firearms were seized from the family’s house in the City of Poughkeepsie as part of the investigations into the two incidents.
