Hospice of Orange and Sullivan gives ‘Honor Salute’ to WWII vet

Sgt. John Hastings, then and now

NEWBURGH – World War II veteran John Peter Hastings has been given an Honor Salute from Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.

Hastings served as an Army sergeant in Unit F Company, 414th Infantry Division. He served from 1941 to 1945.

A Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, Hastings was presented with a special Purple Heart plaque along with a certificate of service from Hospice along with a We Honor Veterans Hospital pin.

The recent salute was presented with the assistance of Richard Drago, commander of The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1782, Carol Parlatore and Al Boltz from Washingtonville VFW Post 8691.
