MONTICELLO – The preliminary Village of Monticello budget has been filed as required by the May 21st deadline.  Mayor Gary Sommers said it is only a wish list and will be pared down considerably before it is adopted, he said.

“The number we are looking at in this preliminary budget, as it usually is, is in the double digits and this is not the final budget,” Sommers said.

Village board members will be reviewing the fiscal plan and cutting it back, the mayor said. The current budget was brought in at two percent, within the state-mandated property tax cap. Sommers expects the new one will also stay under the cap.
