KINGSTON – Acting Ulster County Executive Adele Reiter has directed the county attorney to foreclose on select properties on the TechCity campus.

The move by Reiter comes after the owner missed the April 18 deadline to pay more than $8 million in property taxes owed.

“I will not stand by and allow the taxpayers of Ulster County to bear the burden of paying TechCity’s property taxes,” she said on Wednesday.

Reiter also said the landlord has failed to pay his utility bills while continuing to collect payments from his tenants. “Now Central Hudson has announced that they will shut off their services to the site.” She said she shares “the deep sense of frustration that the tenants at TechCity must feel today.”

She said while the county “has no direct role in settling unpaid utility bills, I have directed the Office of Economic Development to examine the resources available to assist these businesses so that they can continue to operate in Ulster County.” Reiter encouraged any of the businesses to reach out to the county at 845-340-3556 or oed@co.ulster.ny.us for assistance.
