BREWSTER – Hundreds of Putnam’s newest residents from Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and Puerto Rico converged in downtown Brewster on Good Friday evening to celebrate a 2000-year tradition – the Stations of the Cross.

George Sohn of Carmel, a parishioner at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church who helped to coordinate the Brewster celebration explained that the “Hispanic community decided to remember the passion that our Lord Jesus Christ gave many years ago. The object of the stations is to help the faithful make a spiritual pilgrimage while praying for Christ’s sufferings and death.”

The processional was described as one of the most popular devotions for Roman Catholics.Sohn called it a blessing to “reside in a community like Brewster where many of the local residents joined in the ceremony and prayed.”
