Mold remediation continues at Sakac Hall

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College students are home for the winter vacation as work continues to rid Sakac Hall of its mold problem that was discovered months ago. The Newburgh college hired an environmental consulting firm to investigate and rid the dormitory of the problem.
College spokesman Matthew Frey said the restoration work is continuing and “it is expected that students will return at the start of the spring 2019 semester.”
A total of 214 freshman women were displaced when the condition was discovered.
Before returning home at the end of the semester, the students were living on campus in alternate housing including in MSMC residence halls like the garden apartments and the Dominican Center. Some were also living in the houses on Powell Avenue, which were originally residence halls. They had been used as office space for Mount employees and were converted back into residence halls.
