WASHINGTON – As Democrats are about to assume control of the House of Representatives, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY-17) has been named chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee in the 116th Congress.
“We are ready and eager to lead the way in meeting the great responsibilities the American people have entrusted to Democrats – to invest responsibly to grow the economy, create jobs, and secure our nation,” she said.
Lowey said she will work with colleagues in the committee and Congress to pass federal spending bills that provide adequate funding for health, education, child care, infrastructure, and other investments to improve communities.
“I am also committed to using Congress’ constitutional power of the purse to provide robust, effective oversight of the Trump Administration and to reject funding that runs counter to the values and interests of hardworking families.”
