POUGHKEEPSIE – A City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department Engine was broadsided by a passenger vehicle around 9:15 Friday morning.
The incident occurred while Engine 3 was traveling west on Main Street heading to the Clover Street fire station to pick up supplies when a car came out of North Perry Street and struck the side of the fire engine.
No injuries were sustained by the firefighters and the occupant of the car refused medical treatment at the scene.
The fire engine, based out of the Hooker Avenue station, has been taken out of service so that city mechanics can assess the damage to the rig.
According to Fire Chief Mark Johnson, the mechanics will be inspecting not only the cosmetic damage but the plumbing for the water pump as well.  The chief wants to make sure that no leaks have been created that would impede the rig’s ability to pump water at a fire.
