ALBANY – Sullivan County once again was the shining star in job growth in the state in the 12 months ending in November.
In statistics released Thursday, the state labor department reported Sullivan County experienced job growth of 12.6 percent.
That rapid growth in jobs, which has been evident for the past several months, can be attributed to the Resorts World Catskills project, along with the nearly completed waterpark, the upscale YO1 spa and projects that will be coming on line.
Greene County had the second highest job growth in November at 2.0 percent,
followed by 1.9 percent in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division,
1.8 percent in Ulster County, 0.6 percent in Columbia County and 0.5 percent
in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro-Area.
Region-wide, new jobs rose by 9,000 or 1.1 percent, to 819,600.
Gains were the largest in education, followed by construction. Losses were mostly in transportation and utilities and manufacturing.
The region’s private sector job county 819,600 was the highest November count on record, the labor department noted.
