GOSHEN – Confirmed cases of measles in Orange County have increased to six, the county health department said Monday. Three of those have been confirmed in children who attend schools in the county.
Unvaccinated and under-vaccinated persons have been told then cannot return to school now because measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus that is spread by direct contact with nasal or throat secretions of infected people.
The health department will hold a free clinic on Friday to administer measles, mumps and rubella vaccine to non-immune individuals who are 12 months of age and older. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the health department at 124 Main Street in Goshen.
The spread of measles in adjacent Rockland County is much more severe with 95 confirmed cases.
