KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Michael Hein, Thursday, signed
the county’s 2019 budget after the county legislature made just
a few miniscule changes to the spending plan he initially proposed.

The budget includes the lowest county property taxes since 2009 while
it includes a number of new initiatives, said Hein.

“We have been consistently focused on trying to reinvent government
every single year with the full understanding that we work for the 180,000
people of Ulster County,” he said. “If we are willing to make
fundamental changes and make the government more streamline and focus
on delivering services, we can do what we have already done, which is
more services are available today than ever before as well as having those
significant cuts in Ulster County property taxes.”
Hein pointed to the new Restorative Justice and Community Empowerment
Center, funded in the budget, which will lead the way to create positive
change in the lives of countless at-risk youths, their families and others.
