POUGHKEEPSIE – Single use carryout bags may be a thing of the past in Dutchess County in the future. A committee of the county legislature voted last Thursday to ban them.
The committee chose not to charge a fee for their use, noted County Legislature Chairman Gregg Pulver.
“That was tough on the poor and the elderly to ask them to come up with another nickel if they wanted to do that so we are going to see how it goes through the regular meeting,” Pulver said. That meeting will be held next week.
Recently, Ulster County voted to ban single use plastic bags.  Sullivan County is considering a ban.
