FONDA – A state trooper, who served in Troop F at the Town of Wallkill
headquarters and Liberty barracks, was killed in an auto accident Tuesday
morning as he was turning into the barracks in Fonda.

Superintendent George Beach II said Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand,36, was
reporting to work in his personal vehicle at 7:45 a.m. He was stopped
in traffic in the westbound lane of Route 5S waiting to turn into the
station when he was rear-ended by a box truck driven by Aaron Munsie,
32, of Amsterdam, and pushed into oncoming traffic. The trooper’s
vehicle was then hit by a pickup truck going eastbound on Rout 5S, driven
by Robert Crews, 52, of Fort Plain.

He was transported to Albany Medical Center where he died.

VanNostrand joined the State Police in December 2012 and served for six
year including in the Hudson Valley’s Troop F on the west side of
the Hudson River.

Prior to serving in the State Police, VanNostrand was a corrections officer
for eight years with the state prison system.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, parents, a sister and brothers.

Munsie was not injured. Crews was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital
with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

Police said at this time weather does not appear to be a factor in the
crash. No tickets were issued and the investigation is continuing.
