KJ man arrested in NYC after running down seven people, killing one

NEW YORK – A 70-year-old
resident of the Village of Kiryas Joel has been arrested following an
incident Monday night in which his car struck seven people, killing one,
while in Manhattan.

New York City Police said Henry Herman, 70, of 17 Satmar Drive in Kiryas
Joel was driving a 2016 Toyota Sienna, backing up on Forsyth Street against
traffic when he lost control, jumped a curb and struck seven pedestrians.

A 56-year-old man was killed and six others were transported to Bellevue
Hospital with varying degrees of injury.

Herman remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He was charged
with seven counts of failure to yield to pedestrians, failure to exercise
due care, unsafe backing of a vehicle and driving on/across a sidewalk.

The investigation is continuing by the New York City Police Department’s
Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of relatives.
