NEWBURGH – The consultant who has been hired to develop a sound
2019 budget for the City of Newburgh may apply for the permanent job of
comptroller.
The post has been vacant for a couple of months since the previous comptroller resigned suddenly.
Now, Mayor Torrance Harvey said consultant Charles Duffy is “under consideration” to be hired as the next chief financial officer in the city.
“It is my understanding he is going to submit for the comptroller’s job,” Harvey said. “We welcome him to do so and it is going to be a fair and open process like the rest of the executive position vacancies that we have.”
Duffy has reworked the city budget to reduce property tax increases while maintaining a balanced bottom line.
