Second fire in less than a week in the same building
POUGHKEEPSIE – Firefighters in Poughkeepsie were dispatched just before 6:30 on Thursday morning for a report of a fire at 333 Mansion Street, the address of a fire they had battled this past Saturday.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the second floor windows and radioed for assistance.
Fire Chief Mark Johnson said his men entered through the unlocked front
door and made their way to the second floor where the fire was burning
in the living room. The chief said that debris had been piled in
the middle of the room and was burning but the cause of ignition had not
been determined.
“We’re treating it as suspicious and we’re going to be investigating it with the police,” Johnson said, pointing out that it was definitely not caused by utilities in the building because Central Hudson had terminated gas and electric to the three-story structure after Saturday’s fire was extinguished.
Assisting at the scene were the Fairview and Arlington fire departments, Mobile Life Support Services, Central Hudson and the City of Poughkeepsie Police.
