Democrat Anthony Delgado (file) will be part of the new Democrat
majority in the U.S. House.
KINGSTON – By a 10,000-vote margin, Democrat Antonio Delgado defeated incumbent Republican House member John Faso.
During the campaign, Delgado painted Faso as one who supported the policies of President Trump to the detriment of the general population.
“Upstate New York now has another strong, compassionate leader who will listen to the needs of residents in his community and work every day in Congress to meet those needs,” said Karen Scharff, executive director of Citizen Action of New York. “Future candidates would do well to learn from John Faso’s mistake: you can’t use racism to hide your pro-corporate, anti-worker agenda,” Scharff said, noting voters saw through Faso’s racist campaign tactics and rejected Trump’s politics of hate and greed.”
Nationally, the New York 19th district was a high-value target for Democrats in their successful bid to take control of the House of Representatives. The U.S. Senate remains Republican.
